Bro. Gilbert Jones serves as Treasurer of the Sigma Lambda Chapter.He joined the brotherhood in 1986 at the Beta Phi chapter at Dillard University.
Bro. Robert Carter III serves as Financial Secretary. He joined the brotherhood in Fall of 2004 at the Rho Iota Chapter. Bro. Carter is a New Orleans native and graduate of Eleanor McMain Secondary School. He attended Tulane University where he received undergraduate degrees in Finance and Psychology in 2006. Additionally, he earned his MBA from Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business in 2009. Following graduation he worked in a leadership position at a national retailer.
In 2014, Bro. Carter made a career shift from the corporate world to the education sector. He facilitated this by becoming an Education Pioneers’ Graduate Fellow and was assigned to College Track New Orleans. The fellowship gave him the opportunity to learn more about the education landscape in New Orleans and network with like-minded individuals. Later in 2014, Bro. Carter became the Operations Manager at ARISE Academy. In addition to his role as Operations Manager, he served as a mentor to many students in the school. He is a co-founder of Men of Standard—a group dedicated to supporting and mentoring 3rd and 4th grade ARISE males. Today, Mr. Carter is the Director of Operations at Elan Academy, a new charter school in New Orleans.
Bro. Carter is a proponent for healthy and fit lifestyles, and completed his first marathon in 2015. He enjoys exploring the city by jogging through different neighborhoods to train for future races
Bro.Kendall McManus-Thomas serves as Recording Secretary. He joined the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in the fall of 2014 at the Sigma Lambda Chapter. Bro. McManus-Thomascurrently serves as Dean of Academics Warren Easton Charter High School. He also holds the position of Head Coach of Girls Track & Field & Cross Country. He received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry Education from Xavier University of Louisiana, New Orleans,LA and from there also earned hisMaster of Arts in Educational Leadership.
After his undergraduate studies at Xavier he led as the chairperson of the Warren Easton Science Department while he taught Chemistry from April 2012- May 2016.
Bro. McManus-Thomas has earned several awards and honors including: 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year; Solomon Faculty Excellence Award Inaugural recipient of the Dr. Rosalind Pijeaux Hale Endowed Scholarship in Educational Leadership Oxford Round Table Delegate(Educational Reform Presenter). Aside from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. he’s also a member of Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)

Bro. Howard Rodgers IV serves as the Director of Education Activities. He joined the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in the Fall of 2004 at the Sigma Lambda Chapter. Bro. Rodgers is an Investment Consultant who has more than 13 years of experience in the financial services industry. He is dedicated to providing fiscally sound investment advice while creating opportunities for future leaders in the financial industry. He specializes in portfolio management and holds Series 7, 63, 66 and insurance licenses.

Rodgers graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2004 with Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. A firm believer in continuing education, he continues to enhance his knowledge by participating in various personal and professional development courses. Rodgers takes pride in community involvement. He mentors students and young adults with the Silverback Society and volunteers in a number of nonprofit organizations.
Bro. Joseph K. Byrd serves as Director of Membership Intake, a position he has held for 33 years. Bro. Byrd joined the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in 1982 at the Sigma Lambda Chapter.
Bro. Byrd works proudly at Xavier University; previously he served in administrative positions at William Carey College (now William Carey University) and the University of New Orleans. He first served as a general counselor at Xavier, then Assistant Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students, and Associate Vice President for Student Services. He has been the Vice President for Student Services since 1995. Bro. Byrd is responsible for twelve areas of student life at Xavier University. He is an alumnus of William Carey University where he received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science and Psychology and the Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. He also holds a Diploma in Educational Management from Harvard University where he was the first African American to be elected Class President, the first person ever to be elected with over 80% of the class vote and the first person to be elected Class President from an HBCU.
Professionally, Bro. Byrd has been an active member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administration, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals, National Association for Developmental Education and the American College Personnel Association. He is a member of several honor societies including Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership), Phi Kappa Delta (Forensics), Theta Kappa Sigma (Religion and Philosophy) and Alpha Kappa Mu (Honor Society) and Phi Alpha Delta (Education). In the community, he is a member of Big Brother/Big Sister, A Board Member of Bishop Perry Middle School, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Deacons of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans where he is past President of the Brotherhood. He is listed in Who’s Who Among Black Americans. In Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., aside from serving as Director of Membership Intakeat the Sigma Lambda Chapter, Bro. Byrd serve as Chairman of Awards and Achievement Committees and Director of Membership Intake. He has also been Sigma Lambda Chapter President. Bro. Brydhas also served Alpha Phi Alpha as District Director, Area Director, Co-Chairman of two National Conventions, Chaired the National Committees on Special Projects, Awards and Achievements and Membership Standards and Extension. Presently he is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha’s National Education Foundation. Bro. Joseph K. EmekaDibia’s knack for telling stories started in elementary school on his school’s broadcast team where he read the morning announcements. “I’ll always remember when my turn was over… being like ‘oh no’ I’m not leaving!” Later on in life in college he reignited his passionate interest in journalism and eventually graduated with a degree in Communications from Louisiana State University. Then he went on to work WVUE-FOX 8 News as a writer for five years. Now, Emeka is bringing to life his other aspirations as a storyteller in music as a singer/songwriter. Bro. Desmond Ables serves as Historian. He joined the brotherhood at the Sigma Lambda Chapter in 1974. He also has served as assistant secretary and vice president in the chapter
Bro. Chad A. Sanders serves as Chaplain. He joined the brotherhood in the Spring of 2003 at the Beta Delta Chapter at South Carolina State University. During his time as a college brother, Bro. Sanders served as chapter president, was the 2003 SC District College Brother of the Year, College Brother w/ Highest GPA, and led Beta Delta to College Chapter of the Year honors.
The native of Columbia, South Carolina graduated summa cum laude from South Carolina State University and later graduated from Tulane University Law School where he was a Dean's Scholarship Recipient.
In addition to his duties as Chaplain, Bro. Sanders is the Co-Chair of the Brotherhood Activities Committee and Co-Chair of the Social Justice Committee.
Bro. Samuel Myers serves at Sergeant-at-Arms. He joined the brotherhood in the Fall of 2014 at the Sigma Lambda Chapter.
Bro. Justin Jack serves as palimentarian. He joined the brother in the Fall of 2014 at the Sigma Lambda Chapter. Bro. Jack works as an associate at Adams and Reese law firm in Baton Rouge.
When thinking about his passion for law Justin Jack draws inspiration from Thurgood Marshall’s quote: “In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute.” Bro. Jack previously served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Ulysses Gene Thibodeaux, Chief Judge for the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal.
Before that, he was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Karen Wells Roby, a magistrate judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District Court of Louisiana. Bro. Jack was born and raised in New Orleans and is a proud alumnus of St. Augustine High School where he graduated in 2008 as salutatorian. After high school, Justin attended Carleton College in Northfield, MN, where he graduated magma cum laude in 2012 with a degree in Political Science and a concentration in African & African-American Studies. He then returned to his hometown to attend Tulane University School of Law where he graduated in 2015. He was admitted to practice law in the state of Louisiana in October 2015.
Bro. Dylan Penny serves as a lay member on the Sigma Lambda Executive Board. Dylan was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Lambda Chapter in Fall 2010.He has held various offices in the Fraternity including; College Brothers Liaison, Financial Secretary, Vice-President and Chapter Advisor.
Penny earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Management from Xavier University of Louisiana and also received a Masters of Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix Bro. Penny started working as a retail manager for Gap and Old Navy shortly after graduating in 1997 from Xavier. He then moved into Human Resources for Target Corporation. Originally at Target he worked at an individual store in Houma, Louisiana.
After a year and a half in that role,he was asked to move to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he helped roll out an Human Resources system to allstores and distribution centers in the company. After that he moved back in to the field as a HumanResources Business Partner overseeing two districts in Alabama. In 2008 he was recruited by PepsiAmericas where he was the H.R. Manager for multiple Regions in Louisiana. In 2012 Dylan accepted hiscurrent role as the Senior Human Resources Manager for Nola Media Group. The company that operatesthe Times Picayune and Nola.com(the local news media).
